The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) was founded in 1828 as the Institute for the Diffusion of Knowledge, based in Preston.

The campus is clean, green and compact. It has recently invested more than £120 million on buildings for teaching, learning and leisure, including the iconic Media Factory for media and performing arts students, and new facilities for dentistry, pharmacy and engineering. If you’re interested in sport, it has a multi-million pound sports arena about a mile from campus, which offers some of the best facilities in the Northwest and they are busy building a new indoor sport and fitness centre. There’s a lot to do, both on and off campus. Preston is a friendly, safe city which offers a good range of shops, cultural and leisure facilities.  UCLan is also the home of 53 Degrees, the Students’ Union entertainment venue.

The largest campus is in Preston, one of the UK’s newest cities, situated in the heart of the Northwest. Close to the City centre, so it’s only a short walk to the bus and rail stations, and handy for a night out.

UCLan has evolved over the years to become a world class institution, recognised with its inclusion in the 2010 QS World Rankings – the first Modern University in the UK to gain this status. With 11 areas of research judged ‘world leading’ in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise. Amongst its programme there is a portfolio of some 500 undergraduate and 200+ postgraduate courses. With a world class academic reputation firmly rooted in relevance, UCLan is focused on a future of providing innovative thinking – for the real world.
