JOHNSON & WALES UNIVERSITY

Since its founding in 1914, Johnson & Wales University’s fundamental purpose has been to support its students in fulfilling their professional aspirations. Through its unique approach to education, JWU has grown from a small local secretarial school to a national university attracting students from around the globe. 2017: The Centennial Plan accelerates this evolution. Its accomplishment will make JWU the foremost university offering relevant education that inspires professional success and lifelong personal and intellectual growth.

Unlike other colleges, here you’ll take classes in your major right from the start, so you can spend all four years having the type of related experiences that will build your resume. Not yet sure what your passion is? No problem, you’ll work with your own personal advisor to explore your interests and then tailor an academic roadmap to achieve your goals. You won’t be lectured at in large halls here, either. Instead, you’ll work in small groups to discuss concepts and ideas, analyze real-world problems and develop solutions. You’ll interact and do, not just listen. Whether in class or in unique learning labs that simulate real-world work environments, you’ll get inside your field of interest and work on real projects. Why? Because active learning is not only a more effective way of learning, it’s a lot more interesting, too. Many of the faculty have significant industry experience, and share that insider knowledge with you. They’ll also get to know you a personal level, and even help you network for internship and job opportunities.

In Providence, the university revitalized close to 100 acres of waterfront alongside our Harborside Campus, providing a stunning natural setting and a range of environmental and recreational benefits to the community. The campus’ newest focal point, the 82,000-square-foot Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence showcases stunning views of Narragansett Bay and is designed as the nation’s first LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified culinary lab.

In North Miami the school purchased the closed North Miami General Hospital and began the steady transformation of a disparate collection of buildings into a campus community. Today the campus continues to evolve, including the new Sports/Entertainment/Event Management & Golf Center, an edible garden and an upgraded student centre.

In Denver, JWU acquired an abandoned campus and reinvigorated a suburban neighbourhood. The campus focal point, historic Treat Hall, is being fully renovated into a multi-use student services building to be called Centennial Hall.

In Charlotte, JWU moved to a blighted area being redeveloped; today the campus encompasses 8 buildings on 13 acres in Uptown Charlotte.

You’ll find a welcoming, close-knit community and active social life at each of the 4 campuses. Pursue your passions through dozens of student clubs and athletic options, fun events, world class speakers and more. Johnson & Wales focuses on providing you amazing experiences today to create a more amazing future tomorrow.
